19 killed as jets, choppers bomb Taliban hideouts

PESHAWAR: At least 19 suspected militants were killed in various strikes on Sunday, police and security officials said.
Three security personnel also died three men in Malakand and another six were injured, according to an ISPR statement.
Also, the headless body of an alleged spy was found on the Mir Ali-Miranshah road. Mir Ali Assistant Political Agent Mohammad Amin announced a curfew on the Bannu-Miranshah Road from 6am to 7pm today (Monday).
Airstrikes: “Six or seven militants were killed and four were injured when jet fighters bombed Taliban hideouts in parts of Datta Khel,” a tribal police official told AFP. In a separate attack, “Gunship helicopters shelled militant hideouts in Mangaltan, Charbagh. At least 10 militants were killed,” a military spokesman in Mingora told AFP.
In Orakzai, gunship helicopters shelled militant positions, killing at least three militants and injuring several others, according to military sources.
Search operations: Officials claim to have apprehended Taliban fighters in separate raids in Kooza Bandai and Rangeela. The army also encountered Taliban during a search operation near Bari Kot south of Kotah. Three soldiers were killed and four injured in the ensuing gun battle.
Search-and-clearance operations around Kokaria and Takhtaband yielded surveying equipment including metal detectors. Security forces also encountered Taliban near the Qamar Post in Dir, APP reported. A suicide bomber surrendered to security forces in DI Khan, and a vehicle with fake government licence plates was recovered and three Taliban arrested in Bannu. staff report/agencies
